Re “Where Britons gather to grieve,” Aug. 19

Thank you for your moving article on the British town of Wootton Bassett. The way the town continues to honor our fallen military is a fitting and humbling tribute to these soldiers’ sacrifice.

Just as our public does, so the British government mourns every single life lost in Afghanistan.

Our servicemen and servicewomen, fighting side by side with American troops -- as they have done repeatedly when our mutual security has been threatened -- know they are there for a good reason. These brave professionals are supporting the Afghan government as it builds a better future, shaped by the will of the Afghan people.
