A 22-year-old San Diego man has been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a U.S. Customs and Border Protection agent by attempting to run him over with a car, police said.

The incident occurred about 1:20 a.m. Thursday in the Grantville neighborhood when the agent, in uniform and on duty, was leaving his home to go to work.

The agent spotted two men attempting to break into a car, police said. One ran away, but the other attempted to run over the agent, who fired his weapon at the suspect, police said.

The suspect was not hit but was arrested at the scene. He was identified by police as Nicholas Burnthon. The other man, Andrew Sigsbee, 23, was arrested an hour later about a mile from the scene.

Both were charged with vehicle burglary. The agent was described as a 21-year veteran of U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
