Largest Law Firms in Los Angeles County
Business by LA Times Studios presents the 125 largest law firms ranked by the number of attorneys employed in Los Angeles County. Many of the largest firms are headquartered locally or have strong historical ties to the L.A. market.
Gibson Dunn & Crutcher LLP, the largest firm with 309 local attorneys across its Century City and downtown offices, was founded in the city in 1890. Los Angeles-based Sheppard has 308 attorneys locally.
While some firms have existed for more than a century, others have quickly grown. Withers celebrated 10 years in California last year and Larson is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. Several law firms opened new offices within the past year and upgraded work environments. Notably, Venable moved into a new, 45,000-square-foot Century City office in January that includes a coffee bar, a café, a wellness room, a library nook and an after-hours lounge.
Crowell & Moring continues to expand its California presence, adding 26 new lawyers statewide in the past year. That includes a group of 40 health care attorneys nationwide, of which 10 were located in Los Angeles, that were added from Reed Smith.
The firms listed operate 159 offices, as several dozen have offices in both DTLA and Century City for a more regional presence. Several firms also operate offices in Orange County. The 125 largest law firms with offices in Los Angeles County employ more than 9,000 attorneys locally, including 3,800 partners, associates, counsel and other staff attorneys. Listed firms employ over 16,100 people in L.A. County.
