Beloved children’s book author Judy Blume is writing a new book — for adults. To be published by Knopf, the book is slated for summer 2015.

Blume’s books for kids — including “Tales of a Fourth-Grade Nothing,” “Blubber,” “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret,” “Deenie” — deal with actual problems young people face without being preachy. A girl getting her period, sibling rivalry, being different, being bullied — all real-world issues, handled with frankness and with humor.

Describing her bullying book on her website, Blume writes, “I was determined to write the truth about the school-bus culture in the language of that culture. Blubber is funny to a point, then wham!”

Yet during her long run of writing for children, Blume also wrote for older audiences. “Forever,” about two high school students in a relationship who have sex, was aimed at teenagers and published in 1975. Three years and one middle-grade book later, Blume published the for-adults novel “Wifey” about a married suburban woman who has an affair.

At Knopf, Blume will work with editor Carole Baron. The two previously teamed up on another adult book by Blume, “Summer Sisters” (1998), about a 20-year relationship between two women who become friends as teenagers.

There is no word on what the new book for adults might be about. One thing is for sure: It has already been drafted. Blume has said she will be “hiding out this summer revising.”
