The Big Tease

“The Big Tease” Before he got his own late-night chat show on CBS following David Letterman, Scottish comic Craig Ferguson starred in, co-wrote and produced this uneven but generally funny 1999 mockumentary poking fun at the beauty industry. As the tag line says: “He Saw. He Combed. He Conquered.” Ferguson plays Crawford Mackenzie, a Scottish hairdresser who is invited to the World Hairdresser International Federation contest in Los Angeles with a documentary crew in tow. But when he gets to La-La Land, he discovers that he was invited to be a member of the audience, not the competition. Armed only with his scissors, blow dryer, comb and brush — Crawford manages to get himself into the competition. In Japan, the film was known as “Scissors Cup.”
