Legendary songwriter Robert Sherman’s home for sale in Beverly Hills
The longtime Beverly Hills home of the late songwriter Robert B. Sherman, who paired with his brother to bring the soundtracks of classic animated films to life, has come on the market at $9.95 million.
A blend of French provincial and Hollywood Regency styles, the stately two-story house was built in 1924 and later expanded.
The 8,152 square feet of updated open-plan living space includes dining and living rooms, a bar, a bonus room, a den and a breakfast room. A lanai and a covered patio extend the living space outdoors.
High ceilings and walls of glass are among interior details. The main house has three fireplaces, six bedrooms and five bathrooms and there’s another bedroom and bathroom in the guesthouse.
The more-than-half-acre grounds include a swimming pool, lawn and mature trees.
Sherman, who died two years ago at 86, wrote songs for such classic films as “Mary Poppins,” “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” “The Jungle Book” and “Winnie the Pooh,” among others.
His life-long songwriting collaborator was his brother, Richard. They won Oscars for the song “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and for the “Mary Poppins” score. They wrote the Disneyland ride theme song “It’s a Small World (After All).”
