Google Maps for iPhone downloaded 10 million times in 48 hours

Share

Did you have trouble downloading the Google Maps for iPhone app last week? That might be because lots of people were downloading the app -- more than 10 million in 48 hours to be exact.

Jeff Huber, a Google senior vice president, revealed that statistic on Google+ on Monday. But the number of downloads, though impressive, is hardly surprising.

Apple users had been looking forward to the return of the Google Maps app ever since it was removed from the iPhone three months ago and replaced with Apple’s own software, Apple Maps.

QUIZ: How much do you know about Google?

Users who were accustomed to the reliability and accuracy of Google Maps, quickly became frustrated with Apple’s app because it suffered from accuracy issues and lacked some features such as public transportation information that were available in Google Maps.

Criticism was so intense that Apple CEO Tim Cook issued a rare apology for the software within days of its launch.

Whether or not users forgave Apple, many seem happy to have Google Maps back.
