Southern California to see rain and snow before New Year’s sunshine
More rain and snow are on tap for Southern California beginning Sunday night, although conditions should clear in time for the new year.
Los Angeles County is looking at a quarter of an inch or less of rain through Monday, and the mountains will see snow, with about 1 to 2 inches forecast, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Cathy Hoxsie.
There will be some windy conditions Monday, Hoxsie said, but by Tuesday it should be “more breezy than windy.”
“We definitely are expecting a dry New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day,” she noted. “We’ve had problems two of the three big holidays. It’s nice to have one that’s going to be nice.”
Snow could affect travel leading up to New Year’s Day.
Among the highways that could be affected:
- Highway 33
- Interstate 5
- Highway 14
- Highway 138
- Interstate 8
- Interstate 15
After being closed for much of Friday due to snow, the Grapevine was back open on Saturday.
“The Grapevine is still going to be impacted ... but we’re not expecting quite as much snow,” Hoxsie said, “although we’re still strongly recommending that anybody using the Grapevine check conditions before they leave.”
