The bodies of a woman and her young daughter were found early Sunday after being stabbed to death inside a Rancho Cucamonga home, and investigators are still searching for a suspect in the attack, authorities said.

A 911 call about “an unknown problem” led first responders to a residential neighborhood on Bergano Place at 3 a.m., according to a San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department report.

When deputies arrived, they found Jia Jia, 44, and her 8-year-old daughter, Ruby Meng, had been repeatedly stabbed. The two were declared dead at the scene, authorities said.

A 38-year-old Rancho Cucamonga woman had also been stabbed and was found inside the residence, sheriff’s officials said. The woman, who was not identified, was taken to a hospital “and is expected to recover from her injuries,” the Sheriff’s Department said.

Detectives said the assailant entered the home “by unknown means, then attacked and stabbed Jia, Ruby, and a female friend in a bedroom and fled through a rear sliding door.” Investigators and police dogs searched the area but did not find any suspects in the attack, according to a Sheriff’s Department report.

Two other family members were asleep at the time and were not injured, deputies said, adding that they are not suspected in the slayings.

“My husband woke up to a deep scream,” a neighbor told KTLA-TV. “It was the kind of scream that someone was being tortured or in a lot of pain.”
