Looking Ahead: Talib Kweli

It's almost a disservice when a gifted MC spends the evening behind the turntables instead of rhyming at the mic. But, it's also a can't-miss opportunity whenever Talib Kweli comes to town, whether he's giving us some Black Star classics, solo hits or on the ones and twos. The latter is what The B.K.M.C. (Kweli's DJ name) will be doing for this Lyricist Lounge Halloween party, spinning soul and, duh, hip-hop. Why go: As we've seen with rappers (and beatboxers) who step behind the turntables, like Biz Markie, Doug E. Fresh and will.i.am, they can't resist getting on the mic and spitting a few rhymes. Reconsider: Everybody wants to be a DJ. 9 p.m. Wednesday at The Shrine, 2109 S. Wabash Ave.; $10; theshrinechicago.com
