Pictures -- "The Civil War: Visual Perspectives, Then and Now"

Drawn primarily from its nationally known collection of Civil War photographs, this modest but compelling Chrysler Museum of Art exhibit also combines later paintings, prints and photographs in a rich and unusually thought-provoking look at the conflict that preserved the Union. It runs through July 24, 2011. A second Chrysler show called "Portraying a Nation: American Portrait Photography, 1850-2010" showcases additional Civil War images. It runs through Sept. 11. -- Mark St. John Erickson
