We often watch a reality show about a couple and assume they won’t be a couple for much longer. It’s not that we’re cynical; it’s just the facts of reality TV life. But “Giuliana & Bill,” featuring Giuliana and Bill Rancic, seems to have broken that curse.
The show (Season 5 premieres at 8 p.m. Tuesday on Style) features the so-clearly-happily-in-love husband and wife balancing their busy careers with domestic life and becoming even closer as Giuliana battles breast cancer and eventually has a double mastectomy. Powerful stuff. But in the vein of Giuliana’s positive spirit, we decided to have a little fun. Here, the longtime Maryland resident (she grew up in Bethesda and went to undergrad at University of Maryland-College Park), E! News host and “Fashion Police” panelist tolerated our burning questions. And we love her even more for it.
Let’s start with the most important topic: What’s going on with Kelly Osbourne’s hair? What would you call the color/have you had a stern talk with her about it?
I love it!!! Kelly has such a unique style and loves to experiment and have fun with hair. At first I wasn’t sure about it but now I really like it. It’s fun and wild, like Kelly.
You’re going into your fifth season of “Giuliana & Bill,” and you guys seem to be the most in-love, happy couple on TV. Isn’t a reality show like this supposed to tear a couple apart?
The show actually brings us closer together because we find so much joy in hearing that our show not only entertains people but it send a positive message to viewers as well. We get such wonderful feedback from people saying they are thankful to us for sharing out struggles because it helps them feel less alone.
This season, you and Bill are still torn about whether to live in Los Angeles or Chicago. Have you ever considered somewhere in between, say sunny Omaha, Neb., or bustling Cheyenne, Wyo.?
We love Chicago and L.A. but the only other place we would consider is not in between but across the ocean ... Tuscany, Italy. It is our dream to own a villa there one day and spend our summers there.
I love how refreshingly candid you were during your breast-cancer battle, especially when you said, “I don’t give two s---s about my breasts.” But couldn’t you have sent them just a nice Hallmark bon voyage card?
I would have had a goodbye party for them if I had cared that much about them ... but thankfully I didn’t.
You’ve said you and fellow Marylander Stacy Keibler are friendly, but your love for George Clooney is well-documented. Honestly: Have you ever caught yourself glaring at her on the red carpet?
No, because I’m happily married to my very own George Clooney. But if I was single, you can bet I would give her the Italian evil eye.
What made you feel more awesome: Being on Maxim’s Hot 100 list or People’s Most Beautiful list?
People. It’s been my favorite magazine for years and I get goose bumps every time I’m in it.
I love me some Mama DePandi [Giuliana’s mom and culinary guru]. What would I have to do to persuade her to cook for a party I’m having? P.S. You and Bill can come.
Just ask. She is the nicest woman in the world and loves to cook for anyone, anytime. Cooking is her passion and she loves making people happy through her incredible Italian dishes.
Your own E! “True Hollywood Story” airs at 11 p.m. Sunday. When you heard it was premiering on April Fools’ Day, did you think your own workplace was playing a trick on you?
Yes! I can’t believe I have my very own “THS” coming out. I’ve always dreamed of having one but never thought I was scandalous enough. Now I feel like a real bad girl.
Recently on “Fashion Police,” you had to show your own worst style moment, and yours was wearing denim shorts and imitation Ugg boots. Come on, you don’t have something more awful than that?
Oh yeah, I do, but thankfully it just hasn’t been photographed on a red carpet.
Last, but clearly not the least important: My co-worker, Wes, has a crush on you. If you weren’t with Bill, would you be interested in a really good journalist who played in an emo band in high school?
Smart and a musician? Heck, yeah!
