Olympian Charlie White announces engagement on Instagram
Charlie White is giving marriage a perfect 10! The Olympic-champion ice dancer is engaged to longtime girlfriend Tanith Belbin.
The “Dancing With the Stars” competitor made the announcement on Instagram Tuesday by sharing a picture of himself with his new fiancee, who is also an Olympic ice dancer, set against a scenic ocean backdrop in Hawaii.
“Couldn’t ask for a more beautiful setting for the best time in our life! Hashtag she said yes!!!” the 26-year-old wrote.
Belbin, 29, a silver medalist, rests her hand on White’s chest in the pic, strategically showing off her new sparkler. The couple has been dating for more than five years and recently moved in together.
No word yet on how White popped the question, but the athlete admitted he’d succumbed to the beautiful offerings of the Aloha State.
“I promised myself I wouldn’t do this... But I think Hawaii took that as a challenge ‘cause dang! Look at that!” he wrote a few days earlier, posting a picture of a perfect rainbow.
White’s skating partner and “DWTS” champion Meryl Davis, who is also in Hawaii, offered up her congrats on Twitter.
“Congrats to these two! Beautiful girl, beautiful [ring]. Good work @CharlieaWhite,” she tweeted.
And his former “DWTS” partner Sharna Burgess, with whom he placed fifth in the ABC dance competition, also took to Instagram to share her kudos.
“Congratulations to one of the most amazing couples I know @charlieawhite & beautiful Tanith. Love you...” she wrote.
Last week, the gold medalist announced in a cheeky Instagram post that he and Davis would be taking the 2014-15 season off.
“Official announcement is out- we’re taking the next season off to do our thing! Good news though- we shall continue to exist and will be around!” he wrote.
