Justin Bieber ‘busted’ eardrum cliff diving, he says, may need surgery

Justin Bieber “busted” his eardrum and might need surgery, he told fans on Wednesday.

“Busted my ear drum cliff diving,” the pop star tweeted. “Doc says might need surgery now. Sucks.”

But he seemed relatively upbeat, adding, “My ear drum might back us up a little but I’m still bringing you this new music. Much love. Damn u cliff diving!”

It was unclear when and where the accident happened and when surgery surgery might take place. Bieber’s been hanging around in the Los Angeles area recently, hitting the Drake/Lil Wayne show at the Hollywood Bowl on Monday with Selena Gomez and cruising around Venice over the weekend with David Hasselhoff in the KITT car from “Knight Rider.”

And while there are some cliff-diving spots within a couple of hours of L.A., the last time paparazzi caught Bieber cliff-diving was during the singer’s trip to Kauai last November.

Last month, photographer Aja Oxman filed a lawsuit against the Biebs stemming from the day of the cliff diving. The photog, who was snapping shots of the celeb from the beach, claims that the singer ordered a bodyguard to attack him and steal his camera’s memory card, Gossip Cop reported. The bodyguard was booked on suspicion of assault and property damage.

But back to the eardrum: Loud noise, a slap in the ear, a sudden change in pressure or sticking something into the ear are some of the causes of eardrum rupture, while dangers of cliff diving -- in addition to the possibility of whacking yourself on a rock hidden underwater -- include trauma due to the speed of entry into the water.

The cliff Bieber jumped off in Poipu, Kauai -- which was featured in the Harrison Ford movie “Six Days, Seven Nights” -- is reportedly 35-40 feet high, and video of the jump shows it taking him less than 2 seconds to hit the water. After 1.5 seconds in the air, a body is going around 33 mph; after 2 seconds, it’s around 44 mph.

Better keep those feet together and toes pointed.
