'Roman Holiday' (1953)

Though she had appeared in a few films, Audrey Hepburn never had a starring role in a major motion picture until her Oscar-winning best actress turn in this scintillating romantic comedy directed by William Wyler. Hepburn is enchanting as a princess on tour of Europe who decides to escape from her keepers during a visit to Rome in order to discover the city, only to end up falling in love with a handsome American newspaper reporter (Gregory Peck).
