Restored ‘Oklahoma!’ to open 2014 TCM Classic Film Festival

The 2014 TCM Classic Film Festival will open April 10 with the world premiere of the new restoration of “Oklahoma!” Fred Zinnemann’s 1955 classic based on the groundbreaking Richard Rodgers-Oscar Hammerstein II musical.

The film, which features such standards as “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning” and “The Surrey with the Fringe on the Top,” stars Shirley Jones, Gordon MacRae, Gloria Grahame, Rod Steiger and Gene Nelson. Jones will be in attendance at the screening in the TCL Chinese Theater IMAX in Hollywood. The film will be introduced by TCM host Robert Osborne.

TCM also announced several other programs which have been added to the lineup of the four-day festival. William Friedkin will be on hand for the U.S. premiere restoration of his 1977 thriller “Sorcerer”; Kim Novak will participate in a screening of 1958’s “Bell, Book and Candle”; Ryan O’Neal will introduce a screening of 1973’s “Paper Moon”; and editor Thelma Schoomaker, who has won three Oscars for her work on Martin Scorsese’s 1980 “Raging Bull,” 2004’s “The Aviator” and 2006’s “The Departed” will be appear in conversation at Club TCM, the festival’s central gathering point.
