Video: Pan Asian Latin fusion restaurant opens on Las Olas in Fort Lauderdale
The owners of the just-opened restaurant Casa Sensei say they are bringing something new to Fort Lauderdale’s Las Olas Boulevard.
“All the restaurants on Las Olas are one-note wonders,” Victor Diaz, one of the owners, tells the Sun Sentinel in an interview at the grand opening Friday night. “And so what we’re bringing to Las Olas, which is absolutely unique and different, is that we’re truly bringing … the ancient flavors of the East, we’re combining those with the new and exciting flavors of Latin America and the South. And we’re creating fusion without the confusion.”
That means menu items such as traditional pad Thai, lo mein, kimchi fried rice, shrimp/crab/pork dumplings, Korean street tacos and bulgogi, as well as assorted sushi rolls.
Specialty dishes include lobster guacamole, Chinese sticky ribs, the Wagyu Turf Roll (featuring Wagyu beef, arugula, red onion and asparagus in a chimichurri sauce) and an Oolong tea marinated sea bass.
Diaz owns the eatery along with his wife Patricia and executive chef Richard Huang.
Taking over the space that was Bao Bar + Asian Kitchen, Casa Sensei sits on the Himmarshee Canal. Riverfront Gondola Tours is docked next to the restaurant and patrons have an option of having a private dinner cruise through a partnership between the restaurant and the tour company.
