Jon Hamm and Lena Dunham team for fake talk show ad

Share

Jon Hamm and Lena Dunham are both at the top of their games when it comes to high quality cable drama. And, based on this (deliberately) bad talk show short, they can give Zach Galifianakis and his “Between Two Ferns” series a run for its money.

The “Mad Men” star and the “Girls” creator teamed up for this short ad directed by Dunham to promote the New Yorker magazine’s new iPhone app.

In the ad, Hamm plays the host of an unnamed late-night talk show having an awkward interview with actress Lani Doran (played by Dunham). The film Doran is there to promote, “The Assistant” turns out to be an explanation of just what the New Yorker app can do. It also happens to feature Dunham’s “Girls” co-star Alex Karpovsky.

Hamm has been working his late-night interviewing chops a lot lately. He recently appeared on “The Daily Show” dressed as Jon Stewart to provide back-up while Stewart was interviewing Will Ferrell and Galifianakis.

Besides being a New York media darling, Dunham has had a couple of pieces published in the New Yorker recently, including an essay about her college boyfriend published this week.
