Shopping: Rebecca Minkoff is opening a shop in Los Angeles

Special to the Los Angeles Times

Designer Rebecca Minkoff is opening her first Los Angeles shop, inside a boutique that helped launch her chic, unfussy leather bags on the West Coast.

The New York-based designer will open an 1,800-square-foot shop-in-shop later this month inside Confederacy, the fashion-forward Los Feliz boutique co-owned by Ilaria Urbinati — an early champion of Minkoff’s ladylike, playful handbags.

The shop is intended to be a regular fixture of the store, not a limited time pop-up. It will occupy the front section of Confederacy’s sprawling space (Urbinati is expanding the menswear selection in back) and will carry every category of the brand, including handbags, shoes and the designer’s sportswear-centric ready-to-wear collection.

Leather bags range from $150 to $525, with exotic-skinned bags ascending to $2,000. Shoes range from $160 to $395, and apparel from $175 to $425.

“Ilaria has been a great friend of mine for many years, and I couldn’t think of a better place to launch Rebecca Minkoff on the West Coast than at Confederacy,” Minkoff said. “I’m so excited that we’ll be working even more closely at retail.”

The décor of the new shop-in-shop will fall in line with Confederacy’s clean-lined aesthetics, but with more overtly feminine touches. Repurposed displays and eco-friendly materials will also be featured.

The dual brands plan to team up on more than just the rent — a handful of cobranded events designed to promote new music, art and local charities are in the works.
