Antoine Wilson talks about his book: “Panorama City”
Antoine Wilson joined L.A. Times features editor Alice Short at the L.A. Times Festival of Books to talk about his novel “Panorama City,” which features a naive, or slow, narrator named Oppen Porter. It’s “A Southern California ‘Candide’ ... or ‘Gilead’ meets ‘The Jerk,’” Wilson explains in his elevator pitch.
Why Panorama City? “I’m mainly interested in writing about Los Angeles because I live here,” Wilson says. “I wanted a piece of L.A. that hadn’t been covered. Panorama City is a place a lot of people in L.A. don’t even necessarily know exists.”

To go along with his novel, Wilson created the photo book “The Shopping Carts of Panorama City,” a tongue-in-cheek photo book by the fictional author “Jean-Jacques Arsenault.” He also runs the Tumblr the Slow Paparazzo -- an entirely true photo series of places celebrities have just been -- which has been the basis of a limited-edition chapbook by the Ice Plant.
