Advice from the pros wherever you are: the Find. Eat. Drink. app

The folks behind the website Find. Eat. Drink. have created an app for the iPhone. Like the website, it collects recommendations from top chefs, bartenders and others in the food and wine spheres for where to eat, where to shop, where to drink. The advice, some of it very passionate, doesn’t come from Joe Blow but from the likes of Alex Day, of Proprietors LLC and Death & Co., or Ana Sortun, chef-owner of Oleana near Boston. Want to know where Mugaritz‘s Andoni Luis Aduriz, one of the Spanish Basque country’s top chefs, likes to eat? You can find it here.

Search by location or by “pro.” Search “near me” or simply poke around through the listings. You’ll learn a lot.

Cristina Tosi, pastry chef at Momofuku Milk Bar in NYC, recommends, for example, Blue Bottle Coffee High Line — who knew there was a coffee cart of this quality somewhere along the elevated park? Good to know if you’re headed to New York. She favors the bar PDT (Please Don’t Tell), No. 7 Sub for sandwiches and the Brooklyn Kitchen for kitchenware. Next time I’m going to Paris, I’ll check in with Daniel Rose’s recommendations; he’s the American chef at Spring in Paris.

David Myers of Comme Ça in WeHo is a bit stingy with his recommendations -- just one, the Otheroom in Venice “because I really like the vibe.” Josiah Citrin of Mélisse in Santa Monica puts in a vote for Park’s BBQ in Koreatown, Cora’s Coffee Shoppe in Santa Monica and the Santa Monica Farmers Market, while Susan Feniger of Border Grill and Street likes Lollicup in Arcadia “for great fried chicken” and Thirsty Crow in Silver Lake for drinks.

Probably not as useful in your home town as it is when you travel and need to know where to eat in Austin or Chicago, or as far afield as Paris or London. They’re adding destinations all the time.
