2014 Craftsman Weekend returns to Pasadena
The 23rd annual Craftsman Weekend celebration organized by the preservation group Pasadena Heritage has some new offerings this year, including a tile workshop with ceramist Sarah Moore of Sassafrass Pottery and a walking tour of the Monte Vista/Las Lunas neighborhood, originally part of the Rancho San Pasqual neighborhood south of the Pasadena Heights historic district.
The three-day event opens Oct. 17 and will include lectures, workshops and bus and walking tours. The highlight, as always, is the Craftsman House Tour, a self-driven tour of five privately owned homes designed between 1908 and 1914, including the 1911 Miss Ida Hawes House designed by contractor/builder Samuel Hawes. That tour is scheduled for Oct. 19.
An all-day excursion tour of the historic Mission Inn in Riverside, listed on the Historic Hotels of America program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is scheduled for Oct. 17.
Docents also will lead walking tours through Pasadena neighborhoods, including Arroyo Seco and South Grand as well as a historic tour of the Rose Bowl.
The two-day Craftsman Exposition at the Pasadena Convention Center will satisfy Arts & Crafts enthusiasts as more than 60 antique dealers’ and artists’ display furniture, textiles, pottery, tiles, metal work, wallpapers, stencils and books.
