Lenny Bruce The envelope-pushing comedian battled police and government officials over his use of profanity in his stand-up act throughout the 1960s. On August 3, 1966, he was found dead in his Hollywood Hills home. The official cause of death was listed as acute morphine poisoning caused by an accidental overdose. He was 40 years old.
