A man was airlifted to a trauma center Friday after a 1,000-pound sign he was installing at a gas station in Calabasas fell on his legs.

The man and another worker were changing colors on the sign outside a Mobil gas station in the 4800 block of Las Virgenes Road when the massive placard fell on him about 10:49 a.m., said Sam Agaveryan, the manager of the station.

“All I heard was this noise,” he said.

Firefighters were able to free the worker, who suffered “serious leg injuries,” said Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Keith Mora.
