One dead after police chase ends with three-car crash in Claremont
One person died in a three-car crash at the end of a police chase on the 10 Freeway in Claremont on Sunday, according to news reports and officials.
TV news crews at the scene filmed a white truck on its side at the blocked-off exit.
Early Sunday night, officials were not prepared to confirm all the details, but a consistent narrative emerged at the scene from reporters with KABC Channel 7, KTLA Channel 5 and KCAL Channel 9.
The pursuit apparently started around 5:30 p.m. in Montclair, which is why Montclair police are handling the investigation. The chase may have begun after a possible burglary, with officers following a blue Honda driven by a woman with a male passenger.
The chase continued onto the 10 Freeway before the car exited at Indian Hill and caused a crash with two other vehicles. The impact ejected the passenger in the Honda and the white truck landed on top of him, killing him, according to reports.
Montclair police will be releasing a statement shortly, a dispatcher told The Times.
Because the crash happened on the exit ramp, there was no major impact on freeway traffic.
