Guns, badges stolen from locker room during LAPD charity football game
Guns and badges belonging to several San Diego-area law enforcement personnel were stolen over the weekend during a charity football game against Los Angeles police officers, officials said.
The theft -- which officials said included three handguns, four badges, jewelry and cash -- was discovered during the halftime break between the LAPD’s Centurions and the San Diego Enforcers on Saturday at Bishop Mora Salesian High School in Boyle Heights, LAPD Sgt. Gabriel Lara told KTLA.
The Enforcers are comprised of members from various San Diego area law enforcement and border patrol agencies.
“It could have been that they did not know there were off-duty law enforcement personnel there, but it is pretty brazen to break in to a facility during daytime hours with numerous people in the campus,” Lara said.
On Monday, officers and a police K-9 units were seen at the school, working near the football field.
None of the stolen items belonged to LAPD officers, Lara said. The teams had separate locker rooms and there were no signs of forced entry into the Enforcers’ room, he added.
The items were stolen from bags that were not inside lockers, police said.
Both teams are nonprofits and play to benefit various charities.
