Police are searching for the driver of a vehicle involved in a crash that killed a bicyclist in South Los Angeles late Monday, authorities said.

James Findley, 54, was riding his bike about 10:25 p.m. when he was struck by a car, officials said.

Before the fatal crash, two vehicles were speeding on South Broadway near West 82nd Street, said Officer Rosario Cervantez, an LAPD spokeswoman. One of the cars slammed into Findley, who was declared dead at the scene.

Video footage after the crash shows several parked cars that were damaged. A crumpled bicycle can be seen lying in the middle of the road.

The driver who struck Findley stopped and was detained by officers, but the other motorist sped on, Cervantez said. Police don’t have information about the second suspect.

Investigators have not determined whether the collision involved street racing.
