Officials say more sightings of the SUV belonging to a man believed to have abducted a Bay Area infant, prompting a statewide Amber Alert, were reported in San Diego Wednesday.

Authorities are searching for 2-week-old Henry Guler-Romero, who was allegedly taken Tuesday afternoon by his father, 22-year-old Mesut Guler of Sunnyvale.

Shortly after 3:20 a.m. Wednesday, the California Highway Patrol issued an Amber Alert for the infant, who authorities said was believed to be with Guler in a tan, medium-sized 2004 GMC Envoy SUV with the license plate number 6HIL892. The SUV has an image of a large American eagle on its rear window.

CHP officials said they received four calls from people in the San Diego area who thought they spotted the SUV or Guler.

The latest reported sighting of the SUV was at 7:38 a.m., when someone called police to report seeing the vehicle in the area of the 805 Freeway and California Highway 54 in the San Diego area.

The first call came in around dusk Tuesday when someone reported seeing a tall man matching the description with a small baby on a street corner within the city limits, said CHP Officer Robert Catano.

Sunnyvale police officials were able Tuesday night to “ping” Guler’s cellphone, which showed it as being in the San Diego area on the 805 Freeway between Balboa Avenue and California 163, according to the CHP.

Then someone who called at 2:08 a.m. Wednesday to report seeing Guler’s SUV in the Hillcrest neighborhood between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The third possible sighting was at 3:27 a.m. in National City, Catano said. The most recent was at 7:38 a.m.

Guler allegedly told the infant’s mother that he was leaving the state with the child after an argument Tuesday afternoon, according to Sunnyvale police. Guler “has made previous threats to harm himself and the baby,” police added in a statement.

Authorities urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of Guler or the baby to contact the Sunnyvale Police Department at (408) 730-7110 or to call 911.

Amber Alerts are mass public notifications issued when authorities believe a child has been abducted and is facing grave danger.
