Car fire snarls traffic on 10 Freeway

Share

A Honda that caught fire on the westbound 10 Freeway in Baldwin Park blocked all but the HOV lane Tuesday night, creating a huge traffic jam on Christmas Eve but no injuries.

No ambulance or paramedics were called, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The car was blocking freeway traffic near the Baldwin Park Boulevard exit, said California Highway Patrol Officer Patrick Kimball.

The Fire Department received a call about the fire about 6:45 p.m. Two engine companies were dispatched to the scene, and when they arrived they found the Honda’s fuel tank was on fire, said Michael Pitman, the supervising dispatcher for the Fire Department. The car was a total loss.

All lanes were reopened at 8:02 p.m., Kimball said.

Neither the CHP nor the Fire Department knew how many people had been in the Honda, or the model of the car.
