School evacuated in West Hollywood after suspicious package found
The Center for Early Education, a prestigious private elementary school in West Hollywood, was evacuated Tuesday after a suspicious device was found nearby on La Cienega Boulevard.
L.A. County sheriff’s deputies cordoned off several blocks of La Cienega and the surrounding neighborhood Tuesday around noon after reports of a suspicious device, officials said. The sheriff’s bomb squad was called in to investigate.
[Updated at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12: Authorities said the device was determined to be a harmless discarded bottle.]
Reveta Bowers, the center’s head of school, informed parents of the emergency evacuation on the school’s website.
Students were evacuated to the school’s nearby Rosewood campus. Parents expecting to pick up their young ones at noon were asked to head to the campus at Rosewood and Croft avenues.
Bowers reported that all the children are “perfectly safe” and she hoped they would be able to return to the school in time for the 3 p.m pickup.
