Letters: Abortion back in the campaign

Re “Romney revives abortion issue,” Oct. 11

Mitt Romney is truly amazing. After finally pulling even with President Obama in the polls, he reminds the public of the Stone Age views of the Republican Party on social issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage.

As a fiscal conservative, I could never vote for President Obama. As a social liberal, I could never vote for Romney. Fortunately, there is a candidate who believes that government should stay out of our pocketbooks and out of our personal lives, limiting itself to handling only what the private sector cannot handle on its own, such as the country’s defense and infrastructure: Gary Johnson, the Libertarian Party candidate whom Obama and Romney aren’t debating.

We don’t have to accept the mediocrity that the Democrats and Republicans are offering.

As long as men persist in impregnating women without taking responsibility for the cost and care of their progeny, we have a social duty to provide for abortions.

I consider this essentially male attitude based on the ridiculous religious control of women to be on a par with what men do in parts of the Mideast, denying women education and keeping them in a virtual prison of hot garments and medieval laws.
