An 11,724-square-foot tropical modern estate on Biscayne Bay sold for $24 million earlier this month, setting a record for a single-family home in Bal Harbour.
The two-story gated property has eight bedrooms and nine baths. Interior features include a media room, lounge, multi-purpose room, a master bedroom suite with two large terraces and an outdoor shower, gym, elevator and over $1 million in smart-home technology. There’s also a 1,433-square-foot rooftop terrace that includes an elevated wooden deck and a custom built-in bar with tropical wood finish and built-in seating.
Outside, there is a 50-foot infinity-edge pool, a reflective pond and a small splash pool, as well as a firepit, cabana bath and an outdoor dining area with full kitchen. The property has 94 linear feet on Biscayne Bay and a private dock.
The home, at 224 Bal Bay Drive, was built in 2018. Designed by award-winning Miami-based architecture firm Choeff Levy Fischman, with interiors by Deborah Wecselman Design, it was listed in February for $24.95 million and sold five months later.
“You could probably count on one hand the amount of modern brand-new homes on the water in [Bal Harbour Village]. That’s why the house sold so quickly,” said Dina Goldentayer, executive director of sales at Douglas Elliman Real Estate in Miami Beach, who represented the seller.
“Most homes that are $20 million plus take anywhere from 12 to 36 months to sell.”
“This sale shows that modern architecture is here to say,” Goldentayer said. “Even more traditional communities like Bal Harbour have embraced modernism.”
The tony Village of Bal Harbour, which celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2016, is north of Miami Beach and is home to the exclusive Bal Harbour Shops, featuring retailers such as Balenciaga, Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi and Giorgio Armani.
