Unfortunately, the very successful Hampden Hi-Fi concert series in Roosevelt Park is winding up its final two weeks.
But fortunately, the final two shows promise to be good.
On July 20, be sure to check out Fooled Again as part of Hampden Hi-Fi. They are a Who tribute band, and I am personally looking forward to seeing them perform my favorite Who song, "My Generation."
The band kind of lost me during that "Baba O'Riley" era stuff, where all the songs seemed to start with that plodding keyboard intro, but man, their early stuff ...
I wonder if the guitar player in Fooled Again will wreck his guitar like Pete Townshend? Regardless, this installment of Hampden Hi-Fi promises to be a rock 'n' roll riot. And opening the show will be the fantastic neighborhood child prodigy and his band, Lennon La Ricci & The Leftovers.
And on July 27, Hampden Hi-Fi wraps up with music by Cris Jacobs, Kenny Liner and Friends, and special guest Jordan August.
The Hampden Hi-Fi concert series takes place in Roosevelt Park, and runs from 6-9 p.m. There's food and beverages and proceeds go to the Roosevelt Park Recreation Council.
The Golden West Cafe, 1105 W. 36th St., also has some good shows coming up.
On Saturday, July 21, you can see Hammers of Misfortune, The Gates of Slumber and The Pilgrim. And on Wednesday, July 25, you can see Greg Ginn & The Royal We, with special guests Cinema Cinema. Doors for shows at the Golden West usually open around 10 p.m.
And speaking of Fridays, this is just a reminder to those who like to get their karaoke on that Landis Expandis of the Almighty Senators hosts a karaoke night every Friday at the HON Bar, 1002 West 36th St., starting at around 9 p.m.
Summer doldrums? Not in Hampden.
