The latest trends

The California Department of Public Health releases data tracking the spread of the coronavirus in Riverside County.

About 1 out of every 3 people in the county has tested positive, 766,084 in total.

The case tally includes 40,186 probable cases diagnosed with an antigen test, which return results faster but may be less accurate.

Over the past week, the county has averaged 332 new cases and 1.9 new deaths per day. On Tuesday, 2,320 new cases and 13 deaths were reported.

Seven-day averages offer a more stable view of the trend than daily totals.

On Jan. 3, 2022, the state reported an exceptionally high number of new cases due to a backlog from the holiday weekend. The entire bar may not appear on this chart.

An estimated 750,000 people have recovered from COVID-19 or are no longer infectious, according to a common statistical method applied by The Times. Roughly 5,000 cases remain active.

So far, 69.6% of Riverside County residents have received at least one dose and 62.5% are fully vaccinated.

To date, 4,268,891 vaccines have been administered. Over the last seven days, an average of 1,072 doses per day have been given out.

State data show roughly 91% of the county’s seniors have received at least a single shot.

Hospitals and patients

There are now 192 patients admitted to county hospitals with a confirmed case of COVID-19, a change of -24.1% from two weeks ago. Of those, 33 are in an intensive care unit. More information about the strain placed on local hospitals can be found on The Times’s hospital tracker.

Testing

In the last seven days, about 11.9% of the 15,861 tests conducted in Riverside County have returned a positive result.

For the seven-day period ending Jan. 2, an average of 2,695 tests were conducted each day. Data for more recent days is incomplete.

Data from other states, Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico are collected by researchers at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering.

Counties are organized into regions using the groupings developed by the state health department.
