At least 11 Somali soldiers were killed in an attack by alShabab terrorist group against a military base near the capital Mogadishu, government sources told EFE on Monday.

The attack occurred on Monday morning when a group of jihadists entered the military base in the region of Lower Shabelle and clashed with soldiers.

During the confrontation, 11 soldiers and nine alShabab militants were killed, while the terrorist group managed to seize three military vehicles, the regional governor, Ibrahim Adan Najah, told EFE.

After this latest attack, he warned, the government will intensify the offensive against the jihadists, who in recent months have launched several similar attacks on military bases in Somalia and killed hundreds of troops from Kenya, Burundi, Uganda and Ethiopia.

AlShabab militia announced in 2012 its formal accession to Al Qaeda and its struggle to establish a Wahhabi Islamist state in Somalia, where it controls large swathes of territory in the south and center of the country.
