On the Town: Annual honors handed out at BTAC gala
On the threshold of its 40th year of service to the community, the Burbank Temporary Aid Center staged its 10th annual Burbank Top Award for Citizenship gala at the Castaway this past Friday.
Honoring recently retired Burbank Fire Chief Ray Krakowski and Logix Federal Credit Union, more than 250 supporters, including Mayor Dave Golonski, Vice Mayor Emily Gabel-Luddy, Councilmembers David Gordon, Gary Bric and Jess Talamantes, Councilman-Elect Bob Frutos, City Clerk Zizette Mullins, City Treasurer Debbie Kukta and School Board member Larry Applebaum enjoyed the evening hosted by BTAC Chairman of the Board Susan Borders and Executive Director Barbara Howell, and emceed by Chamber of Commerce President Gary Olson.
“The funds raised tonight will touch the lives of more than 10,000 members of our community,” said Borders. “Sack lunches will be provided to the homeless, utility bills will be paid, and groceries will be given to parents so their children won’t go hungry.”
Along with Krakowski, who just concluded his 32-year career with the Burbank Fire Department, the Logix Federal Credit Union, represented by Phillip Denlea, Ernie Bolanos and Alethia Calagias, was honored for encouraging employee volunteerism and for implementing a company-matched employee contribution program that to date has raised more than $80,000 for BTAC.
Among those who made the fundraiser possible were Tricia Krakowski and Jocelyn Paris, who served on the event committee, BTAC board members Jennifer Magerkurth, Teri Suarez, Vicki Williams, Will Rogers, Dee Call, Ron Cogan, Darryl Forbes, Maddy Horne, Nancy Korb, Silvia Mancini, Ron Sovensen and Michael Walbrecht, and staff members Edward Stapleton, Pedro Torres, Lucretia Rimmer, Jacqueline Austin and Michael Williams.
