Two young children were safely recovered by authorities on Saturday after they were allegedly kidnapped by their biological mother who planned to escape with them on a flight from Hollywood Burbank Airport.

The children were reportedly abducted from their foster mother while they were at a Palmdale fast-food restaurant in the 700 block of West Rancho Boulevard, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived at the restaurant, the children and their biological mother had fled from the area.

Authorities declined to release the woman’s name.

Within an hour after the abduction, authorities said neighboring law-enforcement agencies were told to be on the lookout for the woman’s gray Ford SUV.

Believing she was planning to flee the state by plane, deputies also contacted the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority Police Department and the Transportation Security Administration.

Airport police eventually found the woman’s SUV in a parking structure and officers located her with the children in an airport restaurant.

Authorities said she was waiting for an out-of-state flight that was set to leave several hours after she was found by police.

The woman had reportedly planned the kidnapping and intended to take the children to Arizona, where she claimed to have family, according to the sheriff’s department.

After being held by airport police, the woman was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies and the children were returned to the Department of Children and Family Services.
