MEDIA CITY CENTER -- The dogs and cats behind the glass at Media City

Center Mall aren’t just for window shoppers.

They’re part of a pilot project, “Adopt-A-Pet for the Holidays,” which

will run from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Dec. 23, and from 9 a.m.

to noon Christmas Eve. The adoption will operate every day.

The program is sponsored by the city of Burbank, the Burbank Jaycees,

Media City Center and Nickelodeon. The animals are from the Burbank

Animal Shelter.

After the success of a similar project in San Franciso, the city’s

Community Development Department decided to give the mall adoption

program a try in Burbank, officials said.

Using a vacant storefront, Nickelodeon has converted the adoption site

into a mock living room and bedroom.

Adoption fees, which are based on animal registration and spaying and

neutering costs, run from $16 to $48.

Volunteers are needed for the project’s operation. To volunteer, or

for more information, call 238-5180.

Media City Center Mall is at 201 E. Magnolia Blvd.
