Downtown without power Tuesday

Share

Power was out throughout downtown for most of Tuesday morning, after

an above-ground switch failed.

The outage began at 8:28 a.m. when a switch behind IKEA failed,

Burbank Water and Power officials said. Workers tried to re-route

customers in the area, but were not able to turn all the lights on

until the switch was replaced. One circuit was turned back on at

11:56 a.m. and the other at 12:15 p.m., officials said.

The outage affected businesses along San Fernando Road, the Media

City Center, Burbank High School, Police and Fire Head- quarters and

several traffic lights in the area. Burbank Police dir- ected traffic

at the intersections until power was restored.

What caused the switch to fail was unknown late Tuesday, but BWP

officials said they were investigating.
