Boy dies after falling in pool
A Burbank toddler left unattended during a Labor Day barbecue
wandered into his family’s swimming pool and later died, police said.
The 1-year-old boy fell into the pool in the 900 block of
Country Club Drive around 1 p.m. Monday, Burbank Police Sgt. William
Berry said.
The boy’s parents were grilling chicken and watching their two
other children at the time of the incident, Berry said. When the
parents looked for the boy, they found him submerged by the side of
the pool, he said.
Police and paramedics were called to the home and the boy was
taken to Providence St. Joseph Medical Center for treatment. He was
transferred to Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys and placed in
intensive care. He died about 11 a.m. Wednesday, Berry said.
The death was ruled accidental and police said no criminal charges
would be filed, Berry said. The boy was the second local youngster to
drown this summer, authorities said.
