Salvation Army Thanksgiving event
SOUTH SAN FERNANDO DISTRICT -- Homeless and low-income people and
families are invited to spend this Thanksgiving with the Salvation
Army Burbank Corps.
The 17th annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner will begin at 5 p.m.
Nov. 26 at the corps office, 300 E. Angeleno Ave. Free tickets are
available and can be picked up from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays through
Fridays at the office’s front desk.
The Burbank corps will provide dinner and musical entertainment to
as many as 500 guests. Several Burbank companies, service
organizations and individuals contribute their time, money and
services to assist with the event, Salvation Army Capt. Moy Hernandez
said.
Money donations can be mailed to P.O. Box 4040, Burbank, CA 91503.

Bravo to five local teachers
BURBANK -- The Music Center of Los Angeles this week nominated
five area teachers for Bravo awards, which honor teachers for
exemplary arts education.
Burbank nominees included Kathy Kottaras from John Burroughs High
School and John Whitener from Jordan Middle School. Other nominees
include Jin Do from Crestview Preparatory School in La Canada
Flintridge, Stan Hatanaka from Toll Middle School and Mary Anna
Pomonis from Hoover High School in Glendale.
The five were among 60 teachers from throughout Los Angeles County
nominated for awards.
A committee of educators and artists will select finalists in
February. An awards dinner will be Feb. 24 at the Millennium Biltmore
Hotel in Los Angeles.
