Five arrested at DUI checkpoint

SOUTH SAN FERNANDO DISTRICT -- Burbank Police officers manning a

DUI checkpoint arrested five people on suspicion of driving under the

influence, authorities said.

Several roving patrol officers worked the area surrounding Olive

Avenue and Lake Street from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, arresting two

drivers near the checkpoint, Lt. Rick Madrid said. A third driver was

arrested at the checkpoint, which was manned from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.

Two more drivers were arrested after committing traffic violations to

avoid the checkpoint, Madrid said.

“We’ve found over the years that the Friday before Christmas tends

to have most holiday parties and people tend to drink alcoholic

beverages and drive more,” he said.
