Woman drives off freeway overpass

A Burbank woman remained hospitalized this week after driving her car

off a freeway overpass and landing on a frontage street below,

authorities said.

Monica Gutierrez, 44, made a U-turn on the Olive Avenue overpass

about 5:50 a.m. Dec. 20 and drove her Honda Accord through a

guardrail, landing on Front Street, Burbank Police Det. Darin Ryburn

said.

Gutierrez, who suffered head injuries and a broken femur, was

transported to County-USC Medical Center in serious condition, Ryburn

said.

A hospital spokeswoman could not be reached for comment Tuesday,

but Ryburn said the woman remained hospitalized.

Firefighters removed the woman by stabilizing the car and removing

the door, Burbank Fire Marshal Dave Starr said.

. The car took out a section of guardrail Ryburn said measured 10

to 12 feet.
