Scholarships available for seniors
Local students can compete for one of five $2,000 scholarships by
writing an essay on “How will college make you different from the
person you are today?”
Eligible students must be high school seniors. Essays are judged
on originality and content, and must be submitted with a completed
entry form in either English or Spanish. They must not exceed 250
words.
Essays must be typed or printed with the student’s name at the
top. Entries must be postmarked no later than Feb. 15 and mailed to:
The Mahatma Rice Scholarship, 75-22 37th Ave., Jackson Heights, NY,
11372. Winners will be notified no later than April 30, and prizes
awarded by May 31.
The scholarships are funded by Riviana Foods Inc.
Students can access information about the scholarship three ways:
requesting entry forms from their college advisor, logging on to a
special website https:// www.mahatmarice.con /scholarships or by
calling Jim Coronado at (818) 500-4500.
Entrepreneurial challenge offered
Mt. Sierra College is offering a competition for budding
entrepreneurs who will be paired up with mentors to develop a
business plan.
The contest is designed to promote entrepreneurship through
business curriculum in high schools, introduce business community
mentors as educational resources to teachers and provide high school
juniors and seniors with hands-on experience in developing sound
business platforms through a team-learning environment.
It is open to all high school juniors and seniors and will result
in up to $36,000 in Mt. Sierra College scholarships being given in
amounts ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 along with other recognition
and awards.
Preliminary project proposals must be postmarked by Feb. 18 to
highschoolplan@mtsierra.edu.
Final submissions must be postmarked by April 15 and sent to Mr.
Sierra College, 101 E. Huntington Drive, Monrovia 91016.
