MAGNOLIA BOULEVARD SEWER CONTRACT

The City Council approved awarding a $169,500 contract for a sewer

replacement project in Magnolia Boulevard.

WHAT IT MEANS

Work will begin in August on the construction of 1,000 feet of

sanitary sewer under Magnolia Boulevard from Victory Boulevard to

Varney Street. The contract was given to Dominguez General

Engineering Contractor Inc., whose bid was below the engineer’s

estimate for the project. The work is expected to be completed in

November.

Councilwoman Stacey Murphy was not present at the meeting.

Vote: 4-0

ANIMAL SHELTER FIX UP

The City Council approved awarding a $87,955 contract for a new

driveway and landscaping at the Burbank Animal Shelter, 1150 N.

Victory Place.

WHAT IT MEANS

By constructing separate driveways for an entrance and exit,

safety will be improved at the animal shelter, city officials said.

New landscaping will also be planted with an irrigation system along

the frontage. Vido Samarzich Inc. was awarded the contract and the

work will take place in September and October.

TRANSFORMER REPLACEMENT

The City Council approved a $3.9-million agreement with ABB Inc.

to design and build replacements for two old and undersized

transformer banks.

WHAT IT MEANS

To maintain reliability of service for 40,000 Burbank Water &

Power customers served by the Burbank substation, the city needs to

replace two transformer banks. One bank will be replaced by June

2006, and the second by June 2007.
