BURBANK ? Hard work during the summer has paid off for a group of aquatics athletes.

Swimming and water polo teams from the Burbank Park, Recreation and Community Services Department enjoyed success in competitions last weekend ? and some earned the right to move on.

Participating in Southern California Municipal Athletic Federation events, the most successful team was the 14-and-under co-ed water polo squad. The team went undefeated in three matches at the Santa Clarita Aquatics Center, downing Santa Clarita, 11-6, Pasadena, 13-7, and Newhall, 9-6.

With Henry Thompson coming up big in goal, Burbank received fine play from Phillip Diaz, Cody Weisman, Meghan Ferguson, Madeline Porter, Jessica Fish, Jesse Beltran, John Louis-Dell and Andrew Pham. Diaz and Weisman had multiple goals in all three contests.

In the swim meet at the El Monte Aquatics Center, 49 locals were among the more than 600 swimmers who took part.

Gaining top-five finishes in the preliminary event were Casey Ueno and Alex Ueno. Burbank also had its share of athletes who qualified for the SCMAF finals August 19th in Riverside.
