Aerospace company acquires Burbank firm

A Michigan-based supplier of fasteners for commercial and military aircraft acquired Saturn Fasteners Inc., which employs more than 100 people in Burbank.

A week after launching a new aerospace operation in Rockford, Ill., Acument Global Technologies obtained Saturn in order to help facilitate Acument’s emergence as a supplier of fasteners, said Martin Schnurr, vice president and general manager of Acument North America.

Saturn will also give Acument a presence in Southern California’s growing aerospace community, company officials said.

The details of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Disney gives boost to children’s club

The Walt Disney Co. this month donated $235,000 to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Los Angeles and Orange counties to support year-round club projects and events.

The funds will benefit each of the 44 clubs in both counties, as well as a $15,000 gift to LA Alliance, a support network for children. Each club will also receive 50 tickets to Disneyland Resort.

As a part of a commitment made last spring, Disney will also donate one full-sized passenger van, worth about $35,000 to a local club every year.

Disney’s relationship with the Boys & Girls clubs of Los Angeles and Orange counties will affect the lives of thousands of children on a daily basis, said Joan McCarthy, director of Los Angeles community relations for Disney.

Disney has donated more than $7 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America since 2005, including a $1-million contribution to the clubs in Anaheim.

That was the largest single gift the club received in its 16-year history.
