Utility officials investigating cause of power outage

WEST BURBANK – More than 800 houses experienced a blackout at about 11 p.m. on Monday night, and engineers are still trying to figure out why.

A Burbank Water and Power executive said 859 customers lost service because of a feeder outage. Workers patrolled the line, but were unable to find what caused the problem, said Xavier Baldwin, interim assistant general manager of power supply.

“Sometimes that happens, it could be due to an animal or a Mylar balloon,” he said.

Residents of West Burbank near Reese Place and Chandler Boulevard were without power for one hour, 46 minutes, he said.

A falling tree branch caused a power outage for the same feeder on April 29.
