Lottery winner remains unknown

A winning $10-million SuperLotto Plus ticket sold at a Burbank liquor store remained unclaimed on Tuesday, officials said.

Daniel Roh, owner of La Paz Liquor at 4101 W. Magnolia Blvd. in Burbank, said the man who bought the ticket came in to share the news at 10 a.m. on Sunday. Roh declined to reveal the customer’s identity, except to say that he lived nearby.

“He comes in all the time and is a daily player,” he said. “Usually he used to play Fantasy 5, but whenever he had the chance he would go for the big one.”

Either way, Roh will get a $50,000 check for being the seller of the winning ticket, said California State Lottery spokesman Elias Dominguez.

The winner, who will choose whether to make their identity public, has 180 days from the time of purchase to claim the prize at the Van Nuys lottery district office, Dominguez said.

The winner could opt for a lump sum payout of $5.8 million.

It’s not the first time a customer has won the lottery at Roh’s store, but he said the latest win was the biggest.

“We’ve had small winners several times,” said Roh, who runs the store seven days a week with his wife. “But this is definitely the first time for a $10-million winner.”

La Paz Liquor has been in Burbank for the past 12 years and Roh said he is glad to have the extra money coming in, especially since business has been slow.

“I expect and hope to have more customers,” he said. “The money will help make up for the business.”

If the winner chooses to receive 26 annual payments, his first check will come in at $250,000 and will increase by a tenth of a percent each year until his last check for $510,000.

The winner will also have the option to choose how much publicity to receive, Dominguez said, ranging from the simple release of their identity to a full-blown press conference.

The winning numbers were 6, 7, 12, 19, 30 and mega-number 10.

The winner had a 1 in 41,416,353 chance of winning, according to state lottery records.
