A Huntington Park man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly tried to steal a car before taking the occupants’ cell phones.

Albert Miramontes, 41, allegedly walked past two men who were sitting in the car in the 600 block of East Tujunga Avenue and attempted to steal the vehicle, Burbank Police Officer Joshua Kendrick said.

When that didn’t happen, Miramontes allegedly simulated a possible gun concealed in his waistband and demanded their cell phones. After he allegedly ran off with the driver’s phone, the victims drove away and contacted police.

Police located Miramontes a short distance away with the stolen phone, Kendrick said.

Miramontes was arrested on suspicion of robbery and remained in custody in lieu of $125,000 bail, according to the Los Angeles County sheriff’s department. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 9.
